Get Green to Go Green

Good news for academia: You may soon be able to get green to go green.

Green programs at institutions of higher learning got a boost last Thursday when Congress passed all provisions of the Higher Education Sustainability Act (HESA) – a part of the new Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (HR 4137). The Act will incentivize green programs at universities by awarding competitive grants toward the development and implementation of sustainable practices and programs.

Why universities? According to Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), the original Senate sponsor on HESA, it’s simple: Colleges are a “natural breeding ground” for innovation. United by the Campaign for Environmental Literacy, a group devoted to getting more funding for environmental advocacy and education programs, over 220 colleges and universities, higher education associations, NGOs and corporations endorsed its passage. While the bill isn’t the first of its kind, it’s the first to pass in a while: It’s been 18 years since the last federal environmental education funding program was authorized.

Learn more about this bill and check out other campaigns they’re working on at www.FundEE.org.

Free Credit Repair for " Get Green to Go Green"
Living green and payday loans have certainly provided that extra cash flow I desperately needed. It’s a wonderful thing that more and more people are wising up and advocating better protection to our planet. Yet there are still many people who need to be educated on the importance of living green. It's not that difficult to put a little effort to save the earth, and make money at the same time. I probably won’t be getting a new hybrid car anytime soon, but there are other simple and inexpensive things that I do on a daily basis that keeps me going green. I make sure to switch off anything electronic if it is not in use, such as the T.V., lights, and even the heater. Since then, my electric bill has dropped significantly. I guess it helps that I’m a little compulsive when it comes to organizing. I enjoy separating every recyclable item into individual bins. It looks neat and makes it a lot easier for the recycling companies. I’ve trained my kids to collect all the aluminum cans around the house. When they’ve collected enough, we take the cans to the recycling station to redeem a certain amount of money for each pound of aluminum we bring in. However, I am so thrilled because I learned something new in an article I read. I wasn’t aware that people are also recycling cell phones. I can finally make money off of the many old cell phones I have tucked away in a drawer. Any extra cash I can make will help a great deal. I also found some great ideas that will come in handy during this holiday season. I can save money by using things around the house for gift-wraps, instead of spending a large amount on new accessories that will only be thrown out. I have old ribbons and strings in a huge container, and I know the attic is filled with tons of shoeboxes, which will make perfect homemade gift boxes. The extra cash I save will provide the budget help we need, especially with the way the economy is going. Of course, these tricks will help me out in many different areas, but winter is upon us and I know bigger bills are on the way. I know the extra green I do make by recycling won’t cover all of my bills. Good thing payday loans are available to maintain the green in my budget.
